This option is ideal for those students who do not have an entire semester to dedicate to study abroad but want to improve their Spanish language skills. Participants are tested for placement in the appropriate level of instruction (from true-beginner to near-native) and attend 20 hours of class per week. Emphasis is on active and practical communication.
After the hangover of Las Fiestas, I wanted to share with you a video where you can see one of the most memorable events of the Moors Parade. I had heard about the fiestas and I was aware that there was a lot of expectation around it, but all exceeded my expectations. The weather was threatening all day with rain and thunder, but “Alcoyanos” demonstrated to be faithful the Fiestas and waited to see either the Christian captain in the morning and the Moorish Captain in the afternoon. Thanks SAOA for letting us enjoy this memorable events during your Spring semester
This coming week Alcoy will celebrate its main Moors and Christian Festivities, declared of International Tourist Interest since 1980. Main streets have changed their daily appearance with light decorations and a lot of flags flashing in most of the balconies of the “Alcoyanos” homes, and specially citizens that are preparing themselves for the festival, as you can hear about them all around.
The Fiesta is based on some historic facts dated back in 1276 and commemorates a battle between the Christian and the Arab Troops.
The Festivities are generally celebrated at the end of April, from the 22nd to the 24th, where impressive colorful parades - representing the Moorish and the Christian bands – are followed by music, thousands of visitors and a lot of expectation…
Come with SAOA, and they will show you more about this festivities and more.
One of the benefits of studying with SAOA, is that the program offers all students the possibility of living either with a homestay or in shared apartment.

Paellas 2009Today, March 11th, we had a memorable day at the University of Alcoy. Students have had a Fiesta to celebrated “their day”. We knew that this was a big day for students and we had been told that a huge Paella was to be cooked for all participants. But this event, definitely exceeded my expectations! Since I am in Spain, I never saw such a big Paella: more than 1000 students have attended this event! Amazing… So many friends around! In addition, there was music all around and everybody was ready to party all day. I will never forget how much fun we had all day. Thanks SAOA for taking us to this Fiesta!
