Language Levels

• Beginner
  Beginner students are those with little or no prior foreign language experience.

• Intermediate
  Intermediate students are generally those with at least three to four semesters of college-level language experience and are preparing to take content courses in their foreign language of study. Some students with only three semesters may test into "low intermediate" while it's possible that some students who have studied for at least four semesters could place into the "high intermediate" level.

• Advanced
  Advanced students are usually those with at least five to six semesters of college-level language experience and have taken at least one or two content courses in their foreign language of study. "Advanced I" or "Lower Advanced" typically means at least five semesters while "Advanced II" or "Higher Advanced" typically means at least six semesters of college level language experience.

• Superior
  Superior students are typically those who have at least eight or more semesters of college-level language experience and have taken several content courses in their foreign language of study. Superior students possess extremely high proficiency in oral, composition and listening comprehension skills.
